Code of Conduct

This has been introduced by the committee for all out meetings and, if applicable, the society’s own celebrations. No alcohol may be carried or consumed in minibuses / coaches. There is also a strict no smoking policy in all minibuses / coaches. Regulations for minibuses / coaches state that passengers must at all times wear the seat belt provided, and there are no exemptions from this regulation. Please remember when attending an out meeting you are representing Littlehampton Bonfire Society and the committee request that you behave in a reasonable manner. In particular, members are not permitted to smoke or consume alcohol whilst walking in the processions and are requested to refrain from swearing and using abusive language whilst at the out meeting, at the society’s own celebrations or on the minibus / coach travelling to or from the out meeting. Members not abiding by this request can expect to be asked to leave the processions and may be refused transport.  The committee requests that the chanting of ‘oggy oggy oggy’ is limited and not continuous during the processions. The committee has no wish to impose a complete ban on this activity and hopes that members will abide by this request, so that they do not have to consider imposing a total ban as some societies have already done. They would however prefer that this is not chanted at all. All Sussex bonfire societies now request that no fireworks are discharged at their celebrations and most have also banned the lighting of flares, and the hirers of minibuses / coaches do not allow fireworks on their vehicles. So please abide by the rule of no fireworks or flares allowed at any out meeting or our own celebrations. The wearing or carrying of rookie ropes is not permitted.

All members wishing to walk in procession with the society at the society’s own celebrations or out meetings must wear full bonfire costume. There is a minimum standard of cowboy costume for any Littlehampton member wearing a cowboy costume in any procession the society takes part in, including our own Bonfire Night. This includes our torch marshals if they wear a cowboy costume, the traditional Bonfire guise of a Smuggler is also an acceptable alternative to the cowboy for marshals this must be in the society’s colours of Red and Yellow and worn in the correct manner see website for details.  Also camouflage outfit is not acceptable as a costume in our society. The minimum cowboy costume should comprise:

Reflective bibs may only be worn when provided by the Event Co-ordinator or Commander in Chief to undertake a particular task in connection with the society’s own celebrations, and must be returned to the society when this task is completed. In no circumstances may reflective bibs be worn at out meetings or other events attended by the society. This is very important for insurance reasons.
